All gate guards and dispatchers, regarding the email below, I need to ensure everyone understand the protocol for handling a broken or off the track electronic gate. Â
Â
Guards are NEVER to attempt to fix the gate manually by themself.  Never try to push, pull or lift the gate. These gates are beyond heavy and any attempt you make to fix the broken gate creates serious safety, legal, and operational risks. This action is seriously dangerous, outside your training scope, and exposes both the guard and OC Patrol to liability.
Â
Instead of attempting to fix the gate guards need to 1. notify their dispatcher and supervisor immediately, and 2. Put an orange cone at the end of the gate or multiple cones along the gate so oncoming traffic sees the edge of the gate that is sticking out into the entrance. From there, submit a request through property management so they can review it and schedule a qualified gate repair technician to fix the gate. Guards must still create and submit a while on patrol report describing the incident and the steps they have taken up to this point in getting the gate fixed. Â
